Umbrella Society was proud to be a part of the Dream It, Be it event this past Tuesday  . Dream it , Be it is a unique free opportunity for students from all three S. Vancouver Island school districts to explore different career opportunities and learn about the various networks and supportive community groups accessible for girls, young women, and non-binary youth.
Career and school counsellors asked to invite the students that they feel may benefit the most from the guidance from adults outside of their own family and schools support system. Soroptimist International Victoria Westshore is proud to showcase local women that want to continually educate, support, and offer guidance to local students.
The umbrella table hosted by Rebecca and Brae was incredibly busy with tons of youth surrounding us and waiting to get the chance to talk about us and our organization.  Addiction and Substance use affects all of us in some way or another. The youth we engaged with really took to heart our message that recovery is an option no matter what your age is.  Many of the girls had either experience to substance use on their own, or have, or had a loved one who is an addict, and some shared their own stories with us . We even had a few girls from last year who came specifically to see us at the umbrella table as they said were their favourite part at last years event !
We can’t wait to attend next year !
