Umbrella Society Recovery Housing Manager Zack recently attended BC Non-Profit Housing Association’s (BCNPHA) Housing Central Conference in Vancouver BC.

This annual Housing Central Conference, delivered in partnership with the Aboriginal Housing Management Association and the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC, is Canada’s leading professional development event for the community housing sector.

Each year offers an exciting mix of keynote speakers, education sessions, tradeshow exhibitors and special events designed to bring the sector together for three days of sharing knowledge, ideas, and inspiration.

For Zack, the event showed him that several organizations are actively working to implement new action to improve the housing crisis. Zack’s key take-aways from the conference were the significance of cross collaboration and communication among organizations to fill gaps in expertise/resources and the need for more fulsome, “wrap-around” support services that offer multiple stages of care. This can include anything from emergency shelters to supportive housing; treatment and sober housing to more secure, subsidized, non-market housing.

Umbrella Society is an award winning local supported housing provider, our attendance at conferences like this one helps to ensure we continue to provide our community with the most impactful and informed services as we seek to be leaders in supporting individuals in achieving sustainable recovery from substance use disorder.
