Each year, dozens of students in school leadership classes, youth advisory committees, clubs and more participate in the Vital Youth Program. Centered on engaging local youth in the world of philanthropy, the Victoria Foundation partners with local schools to deliver the program. The Victoria Foundation allocates funds to each student committee, comprised of students grades 9 and above, to recommend grants to registered charities of their choice on southern Vancouver Island. Umbrella is always thrilled to meet with students who choose our organization for their project. It is great to meet such amazing engaged youth who are wanting to learn and make a difference.
This year we were lucky to be chosen and interviewed by students from Claremont Secondary School, and Esquimalt High School. And we were thrilled to be awarded grants from the Victoria Foundation from both schools we met with!
We will celebrate with the students at the Vital Youth Celebration April 29th at the Victoria Scottish Community Centre.
We are incredibly grateful for the students who take an interest in Umbrella Society and to the Victoria Foundation for funding this amazing initiative.
