Yesterday, Umbrella staff marched in the annual Victoria Pride Parade for the second year. We had a new group of folks, and it was great to see so many people out celebrating. We had some awesome friends and family join too – special thanks to Mikala for her amazing energy! Amy, one of our Outreach workers who also works on the SURF and Encampment teams, brought her son Beckett who did a fantastic job handing out candy and water to parade watchers, and even some Umbrella staff who were working dropped by to say hello before the parade started (thanks Logan!). We’re already looking forward to next year and how we can be even bigger and better!
We’re also grateful and so thrilled to have received a grant from longtime supporters and community partner The Victoria Foundation to allow us to continue and expand on our Community Outreach program for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks who struggle with substance use. Our diverse team of Outreach Workers, Counsellors, and Peer Support Workers are available to connect with anyone who needs support. We also offer a Women’s Recovery Group, a group for those who identify as women, and are seeking a safe space to give and receive support as they progress toward their personal recovery goals. To learn more about our groups, please visit our Groups page on the Umbrella website or give us a call at 250-380-0595.
