As we head into the upcoming Canada Day weekend, we felt that this year was an especially important time to acknowledge the privileges, impacts, and ongoing support needs in our community, both at the local and national level.
The lasting impacts and intergenerational trauma of colonialism, white supremacy, the prison industrial complex, and other forms of institutionalized exploitation have and continue to create inequalities and barriers to full self-actualization for people in Canada. In looking at both our national and global landscape, we see how many people are impacted by the decisions made and how what may be taken for granted as basic rights are not guaranteed for all. As an organization founded in the belief that recovery is possible for everyone, Umbrella is committed to our defining values of diversity, equity, inclusion and respect for anyone who walks through our doors. We want to provide hope and full access to services for recovery, housing referrals, corrections system navigation, ID clinics, and counselling services for individuals and their families who have been affected by addiction.
We believe that now is the time to band together, support and uplift one another. At Umbrella, we want to continue the work we have been doing for the past 25 years, and support those most vulnerable in our community. We are so thankful for our community partners, funders, and the generosity of those who donate to local non-profits and charities such as Umbrella, and we hope to continue to strengthen those community relationships. Your support helps ensure we can continue to provide barrier-free access to those who need it most!
