Meet Jeff! He is really extraordinary. Jeff is humble yet SO full of gratitude. Jeff’s positive attitude and excitement for life usually enters a room before he does. He works hard on his recovery and has come a long way! Earlier this year he took a 3-week long solo pilgrimage through Portugal and Spain. A trip that dreams are made of and were truly possible because of Jeff’s hard work on his own recovery and the healing that comes with helping others. Pretty amazing!

Jeff decided that this year and at this time in his life he wants to give back. He is choosing to give back by donating $1000.00 of his own hard earned cash to The Umbrella Society. So naturally, we wanted to know why!

The team at Umbrella asked Jeff a few questions:

Q-How and when did the Umbrella Society impact your recovery?

“When I was hospitalized, Umbrella was there and gave me the resources to start my journey recovery. In the beginning, I used every resource that Umbrella had to offer from outreach worker, Counsellor and attending many groups. (uncomfortably, numb codependency intensive journaling etc.) any thing they offered I went to ‘.

Q-What has been the most impactful advice that you have received so far in your recovery?

Jeff said “The most important advice that I have been given in my recovery is to be patient and get comfortable with being UNcomfortable. There is no end point/finish line in the recovery journey, but the gifts are bottomless, and you just need to look at yourself now and where you came from”.

Q-What message would you like to share with folks struggling with addiction right now?

“If you’re struggling in your addiction or just starting off on your recovery journey, I feel one of the most important lessons I had to learn is that it’s OK to ask for help. Letting go of my ego and understand that I don’t have to be alone trying to figure out how to get well. Ask for help! There are so many amazing resources out there that can help you navigate this journey
Say “yes” to trying different programs, groups and resources and don’t give up”!

Q-Why are you donating?

Jeff said that “Umbrella was there for me and was one of the primary resources that gave me the legs to stand and be the person I am today”.

Stories and moments like this are why we do what we do at Umbrella. We see miracles happen everyday. Recovery is possible for everyone! Every persons path is different . And,  no two stories are exactly the same. But there are SO many similarities. Together we can get there. One day at a time.

Jeff we are grateful for you ! Thank you for your continued support in the recovery community and in all that you do ! What’s that you say ?

This is a donation CHALLENGE! Jeff hopes that his message and generosity will encourage others to do the same!

Our goal this Giving Tuesday is $10,000!

We want to thank Jeff from the bottom of our hearts. His donation truly means the world to so many. We can’t wait to hear about what trip he has planned next.
